Biography
Pryor Dore' Parks was born in Goliad County in the small town of Fannin, Texas, on October 5, 1925. He passed away Monday, January 18, 2010 in Texas City, Texas.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m., Friday, January 22, at the funeral home.

Pryor, or known by his friends as P.D., was born and raised on the Parks ranch, which his grandfather purchased with gold he panned in California. He graduated from Goliad High School and Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and a minor in history.

He served in the U. S. Navy as a hospital corpsman in World War II and the Korean conflict. After his military service, he came to Texas City and worked at Texas City Refining for 34 years before retiring as their Environmental Manager in 1985.

He was very active in the Water Pollution Control Federation where he served as state president and received the prodigious Arthur Bedell Award in 1982. During this time he was a member of the Houston-Galveston Area Council. He was also a charter member of Mainland Elks Lodge #2141, a member of the Texas City Host Lions Club, Texas City Rescue Unit and National Rifle Association.

He loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, where he made life long friends who founded the Brush Buddies Hunting Club and later the Toro Hunting Club. Two surviving members are Burl Smith and Ed Browner of Seguin, Texas. His love for the sport of hunting led to forming the P & S Gun Service in partnership with the late Earl Snyder, which lasted several years. He won several fishing awards – one for landing the World's largest tarpon from Galveston West Bay by the Sportsman's Magazine in 1954. Another sporting event he enjoyed was racing pigeons with the Golden Gulf Coast Racing Club, which earned many trophies.

In his later years, the What-A-Burger Coffee Club provided many happy hours with great friends who are: J. B. Graham, Jay Campbell, Dr. Charles Rohden, Bobby McKey, Lloyd Rushing, Dan Scott, Regis Meyers, Ed Staggs, Joe Delaney, Finis Speir, Lawrence Faircloth, Carroll Perry, Jimmy Menefee and Marvin McWilliams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cyrus B. and Vera B. Parks; brothers Cyrus B. Parks, II and Sol Parks; three daughters: Vera Lee and twins Pat and Patty Parks.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Marian (Marinel) D. Parks; daughter Marilee D. Stripling and husband Jerry; and sister Lorna V. Branecky and husband Joe of Seguin, Texas; also, many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and –nieces.

Pallbearers are nephews Duncan Parks, Sam Parks, Craig Parks, Cyrus Parks III, Ken Schell, Brock Bordner, Sam Lee McBurnett and Dr. Barry McBurnett. Honorary pallbearers are: Edgar Hendricks, Richard Brunner, Larry Kelly, Charlie Herbeck, Jeff Wilburn, Jackie Bordner, Dr. John P. Reeves, and members of the coffee club.
