We first find James T on the 1850 Cherokee County Census enumerated October 10, 1850. He is a 40 year old farmer living with his family. There are 7 young children listed and one 33 year old mechanic.
We find James living with his family on the 1860 Houston County Census living in Beat 2 with his family. He and Zelphia have 4 children living in the household with them.

James Truett Caddenhead and wife Zelphy Sides came to Texas from Alabama in the 1850's. They had four children, three daughters and a son, all of whom were born in Texas on the claim settled in Houston County by their father, James Truett Caddenhead. These children were: Mary Caddenhead Currie, Martha Jane Caddenhead Page, Loutisha Caddenhead Currie and James Harrison Caddenhead.
James T. Caddenhead settled on an established claim of 160 acres, in 1856. His son, James Harrison Caddenhead inherited 53 1/3 acres of this claim on December 26, 1885.

On the 1850 Cherokee County Census, James T is living with his children. There is no mother in the home. Francis Marion (Frank) Cadenhead is in the household, 6 years old. This leads me to believe that Eunice (Butter) Butler is his mother. James T and Eunice married in 1839.
