Obituary from "The Argonia Clipper" Saturday October 26, 1889, Volumne VI, Number 35 found under the heading of "The Clipper" by S. W. Duncan

John Vance, father-in-law of G.W. White, who lives nine miles northwest of the city died Thursday morning and was buried at the Stitch grave yard yesterday, the funeral services taking place from the family residence at 11 AM conducted by Reverend C. P. Graham. The deceased was 77 years of age and had been in very feeble health for some time.

John and Jane had a very strong religious background. Many of the names of their children were taken from the Bible.

The Vance family arrived in Kansas in 1862 after arriving by a boat at Atchison and coming on in wagons to the Soupene home on the "Elbow". They soon settled on their Rock Creek farm in the Meyers Valley neighbor.

John and Jane had two children that died at a very young age. Beatrice Chici Vance born April 1840 and died a few days later. A second child Aretus Epenetus Vance born 1856 and died 1857.
