Ella died from heart failure. She was buried at Parklawn Cemetery, Bell Gardens, CA. She was the daughter of James W. and Harriett Ellen (Olinger) Johnson of Tn, AL, AR, and OK, both parents are deceased. She is survived by her current husband Charles Edward Bates. In 1915, Ella married John Arnold Glenn, now deceased. Both Ella and John are survived by their children, Harriet Lucille (Glenn) Bratton; Jeanette Ella, Mae, (Glenn)Bratton; John William Glenn; Jack Anderson Glenn Sr.; Anna Jennile, (Glenn), Johnson. Ella is also survived by 10-grandchildren and by 1-sister Edna Belle, (Johnson) Combs and 2-brothers, James Waymon Johnson and Zollie Otis Johnson, both of Okmulgee, OK. She also leaves behind 13-nieces and nephews. She was also married to Tom Woods of Tyler, TX(whereabouts unknown)
She was a very outgoing person, working in her younger years as a travelling sales lady in Ok, AR, and AL. She was very unique in that she hitchhiked, just about everywhere she travelled. She once hitchiked from OK, to CA with her five small children in tow. She never met a person she didn't like and it was impossible to embarrass Ella. She was happy go lucky, and more often than not, she was the life of the party right up to the end of her life. Ella was loved by all those who knew her. She was born with flaming red hair and she lived up to the reputation given to red headed women. She was a wild and fast travellin lady, and she knew how to have a good time even during the bad times of life. She will be missed by all those, who knew her.
