Nicholas Simon Sommers, 60, prominent farmer of near Granger died at 7:20 p.m. last Thursday, September 12, at the Laughlin Hospital. Mr. Sommers was born January 14, 1903 near Winchester, a son of Max and Victoria Pitzel Sommers. He was married to Margaret Riney, January 13, 1937, at Keokuk, Iowa. They lived at Gregory and Rutledge before going to a farm northwest of Granger in 1917. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, three sons, Floyd Nicholas stationed in Korea; Robert Earl of Watseka, Illinois; and Carl Varmon at home; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Charlotte) Kether of Burlington, Iowa; a brother, John Sommers of Gregory; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Soule and Mrs. Carl Goddard of Keokuk; and Mrs. Olaf Borsten of Illinois. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mary Baldwin. Funeral services were held Monday, September 20 at ten o'clock at St. Michael's Catholic Church at Kahoka, conducted by the Rev. Anthony Kelly. Pallbearers were Lawrence Smith, Joe Jones, Bill Todd, Murl Palmer, Robert Jones, and Hayne Sommers.
