Mary Eck Bonn was born June 24, 1826, near Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany, and died in Canton, Mo., April 30, 1905, aged 78 years, 10 months and 6 days. In 1836 she came to America and settled in Quincy, Ill. Feb. 26, 1846, she was married to Rev. Christopher Bonn. The Lord gave them 3 children, but also took them again in their infancy, so now the father, bearing the weight of 83 years, is left to mourn in solitude. For 16 years she shared the joys and sorrows of a pioneer Methodist preacher with him, until ill health compelled him to leave the active ministry. In all his work she was a true helpmeet to him. All her life she was a faithful christian worker. In Canton where she spent the closing years of her life, she was loved and highly respected. She had a large circle of friends, and in love she bound them to her heart. Her end came suddenly. Rev. Bonn left her in fair health on Sunday moridg to attend divine services. He himself preached. Upon his return home he found her in the garden dying. In a few minutes she expired. All will cherish her memory. May God comfort his aged servant in his loneliness.
