Jesse Callis, 94, Topeka, died Saturday in a Topeka hospital He had been ill about a week. He was born Feb. 9, 1878 at Virden, Ill. and lived at Herington many years before he moved to Topeka three years ago. He was a member of the Baptist Church at Herington. He was a railroad fireman and worked for rock Island and Missouri Pacific Lines before he retired.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adda, a son and a daughter. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Edna Mickelwait, at home; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Eastham, Humboldt; 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Puryear Mortuary at Herington is in charge of arrangements with burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery at Herington. Tibbitts-Fockele Mortuary is in charge of Topeka arrangements.
