Charles "Chick" Maestas, 87, formerly of Richfield, Idaho, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2010, at the Lincoln County Care Center in Shoshone, Idaho, after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's.

He was born Oct. 5, 1922 in Fruita, Colorado to Joseph E. and Ellenor Lucero Maestas. He married Lois Wilson. She survives.

He is also survived by three sons, David (Jean) of Hagerman, K-C of Picabo and Doug (Sherry) of Boise; daughter, Susan Arlene (Jim) Barton of Carey; brothers, Richard of Gooding and Henry of Renton, Washington; sisters, Alice Troyano of Pequannock, N.J., Maxine Doss of Boise, Jo Thomaidis of Centennial, Colorado, Eileen Varin of Boise, Carmen Maestas of Long Beach, Washington and Leslie Renner of Gooding; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kayla Diane; grandson, Reggie Barton; his parents; brother, Lloyd; sisters, Ellenor Velasquez and Estelle Pate; nieces, Cindy Maestas and Beverly Velasquez and nephew, Matt Varin.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the NTS Farragut, USS Monticello and the USS Eupopa during World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal.
