# Note:
Source: Recollections of Mildred J. (Bakunas) Teachout-Lamb-Severine as told to Darlene M. (Lamb) Ferguson.

Beulah died when she fell down a flight of stairs at 8:45 PM and fractured her skull at the age of 25 years and 12 days old. The address listed on the death certificate at the time of her death was 512 10th Ave. South; Mpls., MN. Another address listed on the death certificate was 613 12th Ave. South; Mpls., MN. This was probably the address of where she died. She is buried under the name "Bakamus" at the cemetery; the Death Certificate has the name spelled as "Bakanus". Beulah's mother, Levinia (Saltsman) Thomas-Beebe, took care of the funeral arrangements. Her English was probably not very good and we figure that's the reason for the discrepency in the spelling of the last name "Bakunas".
According to the Death Certificate, Beulah was divorced from Joseph Bakunas at the time of her death. The Death Certificate also lists her place of birth as OK. No city was given.
Mildred, her daughter, remembers her as being a "party" person. She didn't seem to like the fact that she had kids and didn't give them much notice. Beulah and Joseph argued and fought a lot. She also remembers that perhaps there was another daughter born (by the name of Betty Lou) to Beulah and given up for adoption. This is just a vague memory on Mildred's part.
Mildred remembers going to live in OK with her dad when he was working in the coal mines. However, her mother didn't like it very much and took the children back to Minneapolis to live. They lived with Beulah's mother. This is when the divorce probably took place.
After Beulah died, the three children were put in the Owatonna State School (Orphanage) in Steel Co., MN by their grandmother (under the name of Bakamus) because she didn't think the coal mines in OK (where their father was living) was a proper place to raise children. The grandmother then moved to OK and Mildred thinks that is was probably in or near Milton, LeFlore Co., OK.
I calculated the marriage date of Joseph and Beulah to be around 1918. Beulah was 16 years old when Mildred was born.

Finally got down to the Hist. Soc. and found a small paid death notice for you. It was in the Mpls. Journal, Tues. 9/11/28. Said "Bakanus, Beulah, aged 25 years passed away Sunday. Survived by mother, 2 daughters, 2 sons. Services Wed., 2 o'clock from the Walter A. Anderson Chapel, 1825 Riverside. Internment in Crystal Lake Cemetery" That was all I found. Hope it helps. Sherry
