Services for Mr. A.W. Stuckey, age 88 of Wilkinson County, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Pleasant Plains Primitive Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Elder Garry Hall and Brother Bobby Hutto will officiate. Mr. Stuckey was the son of the late Herschel Stuckey and the late Julia Payne Stuckey. He was a member of the Laurens Co. Cattleman's Assoc and the Wilkinson County ASCS Committee. He was named Soil Conservation Man of the Year for Wilkinson County. Mr. Stuckey served 30 years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a Veteran of WWII, Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star during the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Rifle Team. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Mr. Stuckey farmed for the next 40 years until his death. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather. He always said he was a rich man because of his loving family. Mr. Stuckey passed away on Monday, April 05, 2010. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stuckey, son, Tom (Debbie) Stuckey of Newnan, GA; son, Paul (Dianne) Stuckey of Fort Deposit, AL; daughter, Mary S. (Charles) Moran of Decatur, GA; son, Joel (Beverly) Stuckey of Danville, GA; daughter, Amy S.(Greg) Orr, of Irwinton, GA; two grandsons, Matthew (Celeste) Orr of Jeffersonville and David (Sarah) Henderson of Letohatchie, AL; four grand-daughters, Lauren Moran and Ansley Moran both of Decatur, GA; Allison Jones (Braulio) Gonzalez of Austin, TX; and Jennifer (Mitch) Coghlan of Fort Deposit, AL; two great-grandsons, Elijah Orr and Malachi Orr; two great-grand-daughters, Emelyn Coghlan and Mary Elizabeth Henderson, and a sister, Glenyce (Warren) Green of Montrose and one niece and nephew. Pallbearers will be Gerald Green, Dawson Lampp, Wendell Stuckey, Pete Williams, Bill Shepherd and Wade Payne. The family will receive friends at Pleasant Plains Primitive Baptist Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until funeral hour. Townsend Brothers Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
