Obit for Fannie Mae Swearingin
Mrs. Fannie Mae Swearingin, age 84 of Austonio, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2006 in the East TX Medical Center-Crockett. Mrs. Swearingin was born June 8, 1921 to Wiley Wilson (W.W.) and Ida (McDonald) Christian. Mrs. Swearingin grew up in the Ash Community, near Austonio, and graduated in 1939 from Austinio High School. After graduation, she worked as a waitress at the Royal Cafe in Crockett for many years.
On September 27, 1945, she married George "Elmer" Swearingin of Ash, after he returned from serving in the Army Air Corp in World War II. In May of 1948, they moved to Houston, making their home for,ore than 20 years. Mrs. Swearingin was one of the first checkers when Wal Mart opened in Crockett. Mrs. Swearingin was a member of the Austonio Baptist Church and was a devoted wife of 60 years.
Survivors include her husband Elmer Swearingin, of Ash; daughter and son-in-law Nancy Marlene and Bruce Bailey, of Ash; grandchildren Kenneth Ray Baker and Cynda Lou Garlington, of Lufkin, Kris and Michele Baker, of Flint and Lisa and Wade Gilbert, of Diboll; step-grandchildren Aaron, Andy, Lydia and Micah Bailey, of Denton. Alex and Amanda Bailey, of Huntsville; great-grandchildren Amanda Baker, of Rockwall, Chance Roden, Colby Roden, Logan Gilbert, of Diboll and Tyler and Emily Baker, of Flint; sisters-in-law Irene Patrick and Evelyn Christian, both of Crockett, Amanda Malone Christian and husband Jerry, of Ash and Huntsville and Virginia Swearingin, of Ash.
