Dave married Eliza "Jane" Eckert in 1882 who came from another early and well established family in Cass Township, Hancock County, Ohio. Together they had two sons - Jay and Earl Creighton. Both sons married and for a time relocated to the state of Kansas. Both returned to Ohio in later years. Dave did not live to see his only granddaughter/grandchild Ruth (through son Earl) who was born many years after his passing.
The circumstances of Dave's death were most harrowing. Dave was shopping in downtown Findlay, Ohio at the old Patterson's Department Store building, on the top floor. He pushed the button for the elevator. When the elevator doors opened Dave walked in, only there was no elevator. He fell four floors down the elevator shaft to the basement. He initially survived the fall, being greatly startled. After being rescued he walked away from the scene, but was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital. He was kept there for observation. The next day he died from internal injuries including severe internal bleeding. Dave's demise was an awful, shocking, and premature ending for such a good, well-liked, and respected man.
Authored by the Great-Great Grandson of his brother James Creighton.
