Obituary – Western Heralnd February 10, 1910, p. 4

Mrs. Sarah was born in Norway in 1826 and was married in the same county [sic] to Nels Sorem. They came to Gundy Co., Ills. In 1865. Here Mr. Sorem died just one week after landing in America, and in 1879 she with her sons and one daughter came to Hodgeman Co. Kans., where she has resided ever since.

Four children were born to them, three boys and one girl. Two of the sons with the father have preceded her to the better world. One of those sons was Nels Sorem a pioneer of this county and well known and respected who died about one year ago. The surviving children are Jake Sorem of this City and Mrs. Bertha Anderson of Paola, Kan.

She also leaves 21 grandchildren. Mrs.Sorem was baptizied and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her girlhood and have lived in accordance to this till death, which clamed [sic] her at the ripe age of 84, on Feb. 5, 1910.

The funeral was held from the Congregational Church in Jetmore. The funeral address was made by Rev. B.F. Coburn of the M.E. Church.

He not only paid a beautiful tribute to the life of Mother Sorem but all Christian Motherhood, of which she was a type, and whatever she may have missed in the land of her adoption so far from her native home, it was hers to know the Language of heaven and commune oft and close with God from whom she drew the strength that never failed her to the end.
