Angelo Theodore "Ted" Acton: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Daily Oklahoman, The (Oklahoma City, OK) - Monday, October 2, 2000
Deceased Name: Angelo Theodore "Ted" Acton
ACTON Angelo Theodore "Ted" passed away October 1 at his home in Moore, after 73 years of filling the lives of his family and hundreds of acquaintances with enough love and lasting memories to match his strong, massive presence. He was born in Oklahoma City to Mary and Frank Edward Acton, Jr. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Patsy Thomas Acton; his mother; and his brother, Herschel. Ted was successful throughout his life, as a popular Golden Gloves and U.S. Army heavyweight boxer in the 1930's and 40's, driver of his father's stock cars, a Sr. Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army 43rd Combat Corp of Engineers during WWII, and in supervisory positions in the meat packing industry, including 25 years with Wilson and Co. His greatest success, however, was as a husband, father, and grandfather, whose love still had the capacity to touch the lives of children who rode his school bus #10 in the Moore School district, or strangers who visited and laughed with him as they shopped at the produce stand he and his second wife, Betty, operated for several years at the intersection of S.W. 19th and Telephone Rd. in Moore. He is survived by his father; his sister, Deanna Pritchett of Lenexa, KS; four daughters and a son from his first marriage, Donna Gillihan, Olathe, KS, Gary Acton, Austin, TX, Debbie Quinn, Edmond, Tammy Ridley, Norman, Regina Hansen, Norman; eleven grandchildren, Teresa, Tina, Tara, Keith, Beau, Brooke, Kristen, Megan, Madison, Lauren and Hayden; and seven great-grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, Alex, Alison, Amanda, Hunter and Abigail. After the death of his first wife, Pat, Ted was welcomed as a worthy companion into another family, marrying Betty Embry of Moore; eleven years ago. Ted is also survived by Betty and her children, Howard Embry, of Mustang, Phyllis Embry of Norman, Sue Parker of Moore, John Embry of Norman, Sharon Harrington of Moore, 17 step grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren. The void of his presence will be filled forever by the happy memory of his love. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3 at the First Freewill Baptist Church of Moore. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.Edition: CITY
