Mr. Randolph was a Railroad Executive who came to the desert to seek relief from tuberculosis. He was also one of the finest civil engineers in the United States. He was chancellor of the University of Arizona and vice president of Consolidated National Bank. Willis Barnum and his wife bought 480 acre parcel of land in 1925 to create a city park, which was named in honor of Epes Randolph. In later years, the park was renamed for Gene Reid, a longtime city parks director. Epes was part-owner of the Santa Rita Hotel, the largest and finest hotel in Arizona in 1904. He had interests in Tucson realty and in the Tucson phone company. A Tucson Masonic lodge was named in his honor as well as a railroad station and a canyon in Pinal County.

According to his death certificate, he was the son of William Eston Randolph and Sarah Lavinia Epes Randolph, both of Virginia

Reid Park was originally named for Mr. Randolph
