Helen Darlene (Conn) Kinnamon, born Sept. 20, 1930, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010. The life-long resident of Centerville and the Evangelical Covenant Church peacefully passed away at home on Easter Sunday, Her family by her side.

In passing, she is reunited with her husband of 44 years, William Gene Kinnamon, her parents Annie Mae(Fisher) and Harold Dick Conn, her brothers Leonard Conn, Lester Conn, Elton Conn and Ole Benjamin Conn, her sister, Georgianna(Conn)Whaley, as well as her infant son, Christopher Kelly Kinnamon.

Innediate family celebrating her life are her son, Roger William Kinnamon of Centerville; daughter, Deborah Ann Kinnamon and husband Zane Klein of Harris, Mo.; daughter, Rebecca Sue Kinnamon and partner David Scot Winterton and their son, Dain Torger Winterton, of State Center; and daughter, Constance Day(Kinnamon)Fava and her husband, Robert Fava of West Des Moines.

Helen was educated in the Centerville Community Schools and Indian Hills Community College. In addition to being a passionate and loving mom, she worked at Sondra's Dress Shop, Kelly's Dentistry and retired from Union Carbide/Viskase after extensive years of service.

In her early years, Helen played basketball, shortstop for the championship Belloma Fruit Company softball team and was an award-winning bowler.

Helen enjoyed her humor very much, music of all types, reading her Bible and praying for others' needs. She was an avid Bluegrass music fan, and won awards for her harmonica playing which is a talent she acquired in elementary school and continued during her days playing in the high school harmonica band.

She enjoyed crocheting, fishiing, playing cards and bingo, playing Wii bowling with her grandson, Dain, as well as visiting the slots at Iowa casinos. She was a life-long active member of the Appanoose County Democrats. She and her husband Bill also shared many experiences throughout their lives united together as devoted husband and wife, and as Mom and Dad.

She so loved her immediate family and her extended family.

Especially cherished are memories of trips to the Smokey Mountains, Mount Rushmore, Badlands, New Orleans, the Ozarks, a St. Louis Cards baseball game, family reunions, camping at Lake Rathbun and Lake Wapello and "movie nights."

Helen's family has been comforted by staff at Mercy Hospice and also through stories of her shared by family and friends in recent weeks. Thank you for telling us your memories of out wonderful mother and grandmother; it was a true gift to see her through your eyes.


Funeral services will be held at 10 am Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Lange Funeral Home, Centervcille with Pastor Alan Cooper officiating. Friends may call all day Friday with the family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville. A memorial has been established to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice in her name and may be left at the funeral home.
