He was born in Sinton Sept. 19, 1944. He loved to dance and sing. He played the guitar and the accordion.
On his days off he would either go fishing or work in the yard and tend his garden. For 27 years he served in the capacity of lieutenant, sergeant and deputy constable.
His cancer began in 1970 when he attended the police academy at Del Mar College. His portfolio consists of letters of commendations for public services from the City of Alice Police Department and Nueces County Sheriff's Department where he was presently employed as a deputy.
He continued his education in law enforcement certification and TCLEOSE accreditation by attending The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward F. Sherek; and his sister, Mary E. Ruder.
He is survived by his fiancé, Katy Costello; one son, Aaron James Sherek of Houston; his 94-year-old mother, Mary Vanecek Sherek (John) Klepac of Jarrell; two brothers, Johnny (Elaine) Sherek of Sandia, and Joe (Linda) Sherek of Ozuna; one sister, Bernice (Albert) Baca of Sandia; two stepdaughters, Dawn Kopeckey-Lewis (Tommy) of San Antonio, and Krissy (Javier) Villarreal of Croughton England; two grandchildren, Cody and Dustin Villarreal; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Cage-Mills Funeral Home. The funeral Mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 19, at Saint Helena of the True Cross of Jesus Catholic Parish officiated by Father James Farfaglia. Interment followed in Taft Memorial Park in Taft.
