From 1891 Plat Book of Davis County: Sylvester Vorhis owned the NE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Sec 16, Twp, 69N, Rge. 12W of Davis County, Iowa amounting to 40 acres. Known as Union Township. His brother William Reece Vorhis owned the S 1/2 of the SE 1/4, 80 acres, which was directly south of Sylvester's land. It is likely that the brothers owned the land of their father, David Davis Vorhis, as this is the only locale that has the Vorhis name assigned.
This land lies south of South Chequest Creek, along Unity Road. About one mile to the northwest is Rouch Cemetery where so many family members are buried.
