Newt was a 1927 graduate of Martinsburg High School where he was an outstanding tackle on the football team for two years.

He was an active member and former deacon of Tuscarora Presbyterian Church.

He also was a member of the Tuscarora Ruritan Club, Adam Stephen Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, Martinsburg Kiwanis and a devoted member of the ASPA.

Affilated with the diary industry his entire life, he was associated with Thatcher's Dairy for 42 years and with Potomac Farms for six years.
