MRS. M. E. WHEDBEE DIES
END COMES EARLY TODAY AT AGE OF 81

Funeral Services For Well Known Woman Will Be Conducted From Home at 2:00 p.m. Monday

Mrs. Margaret E. Whedbee, for many years a widely known Carthage woman, died at her home, corner of Chestnut and McGregor Streets at 1 o'clock this morning. She was 81 years old.
For some time Mrs. Whedbee has been in failing health and for the last few days her condition was critical and it was realized that the end was not far away. Her death was due to infirmities incident to old age.
Margaret Ellen Millen was born in Morgan County, Illinois, December 1, 1843. she was married in Gentry County, Missouri to John H. Whedbee. They made their home in north Missouri until about 25 years ago when they moved from Maryville to Carthage. Mr. Whedbee purchased property on South McGregor Street, just south of Poplar, and they resided there a number of years. Later they built the home at the corner of McGregor and Chestnut to which they moved and in which Mrs. Whedbee passed away early today. Mr. Whedbee died here September 8, 1911.
No children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Whedbee. However they reared the father and mother of Holt and Frank Brett and also raised the two Brett boys who are their nephews. Holt Brett continues to make Carthage his home and Frank now resides in Dallas, Texas. The latter will be here for the funeral services.
Mrs. Whedbee was the last of a family of three brothers and six sisters. Other nieces and nephews who survive are

Mrs. Dale, Miss Grooms and O. L. Millen arrived Wednesday in response to a message telling of Mrs. Whedbee's critical condition. Frank Millen of Kansas City will arrive for the funeral.
Mrs. Whedbee was a member of the Christian Church. she had a large circle of devoted friends. She was a woman of splendid Christian character and enriched the lives of all with whom she came in contact with. Funeral will be conducted from the Whedbee home and she will be buried next to her husband in Park Cemetery.
