Helen (Ruzicka) Janky Albee, 90, of Grand Island, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Tiffany Square Care Center. Mrs. Janky was born July 27, 1919, at Loma to Alois J. and Mary A. (Coufal) Ruzicka.
Survivors of the immediate family include seven sons and six daughters-in-law, Ronald Janky of Dannebrog, David and Gladyce Janky, Paul and Nancy Janky, Mark and Leslie Janky, all of Omaha, Bob Janky and Fredlee Shore of Aurora, Colo., Joseph and Susan Janky and John and Debra Janky, all of Chapman; seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Elaine and Gene Bishop, Joyce and Marlin Sekutera, all of Grand Island, Marlene and Joe Bolen of Boise, Idaho, Judy Hansen of Lincoln, Barbara Ruhe and Thomas Wensel of Aurora, Colo., Mary and Kevin Williamson of Chapman and Michelle and Nick Petersen of Omaha; 44 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and a host of friends and relatives..
Helen moved with her family to Polk County, near Stromsburg. when she was six years old. Five years later, the family moved five miles west closer to Polk. Helen received her education at Assumption High School in Dwight. She married Joseph Janky on June 2, 1937, at Central City in a double wedding with her brother, Joe and his wife, Helen Janky. They lived and farmed six miles northwest of Chapman. Mr. Janky died in 1977. Helen was an Avon consultant after Joe's death and continued selling Avon for 13 years. She also was the organist for St. Michael's Catholic Church in Central City for many years. She married Harold C. Albee on Jan. 17, 1987, and they lived in Grand Island. Helen worked for the Hall County Election Commissioner during election years. Mr. Albee died Feb. 9, 2001.
Helen enjoyed playing music, singing in the choir, reading, painting and traveling with her best friend Virginia Barnes. She was a gracious host and best known for her excellent cooking and baking of kolaches, crescent rolls and cinnamon rolls.
Helen was a wonderful mother and grandmother who loved her family and made them the center of her life. We will all miss her dearly.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and a past member of St. Mary's Parish Choir.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Joseph Janky and Harold Albee, a daughter, Karen Roberts, grandson, Joey Janky, four brothers, Louis Ruzicka, Joseph Ruzicka, Gerald Ruzicka and Victor Ruzicka, two sisters, Mary Houdek and Agnes Jisa, daughter-in-law, Jean Janky and son-in-law, Mark Hansen.
