RESTON, VIRGINIA - Ethel Johnson Read, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, in Reston, Virginia.
She was born Sept. 12, 1911, in Brigham City, Utah, a daughter of Harmon J. and Sarah Nelson Johnson and moved to Ogden as a young child.
She married Raymond E. Read on Nov. 25, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was sealed on Aug. 5, 1998 in the Jordan River LDS Temple. He died on Dec. 21, 1996.
Ethel graduated from Ogden High School and Smithsonian Business College. Following graduation, she was employed as a stenographer for Ogden State Bank. She was an active member of the LDS Church and enjoyed her work in Primary and Relief Society. She had been a member of a bridge club and sewing club where she made many life long friendships. Ethel and Ray traveled extensively in the U.S. and also to Mexico, Guatemala, Europe, and New Zealand. They enjoyed most of all traveling to visit their grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Dennis R. (Kristine) Read, Reston, Virginia; and one daughter Marilyn Read, Salt Lake City; one granddaughter, Brittian Read; two grandsons, Brooks Read and Austin Read; four nephews and one niece, Sidney L. Swerman, Neal Johnson, David Johnson, Greg Johnson, and Debbie Carlson.
Also surviving are one brother and one sister, Darrell (Beth) Johnson, Ogden, and Alice Swerman, Hemet, CA. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Harmon Johnson. Funeral service will be held Monday, Dec. 31, 2001 at 11 a.m. in the Larkin & Sons Mortuary where friends may call Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. Interment in Ogden City Cemetery.
