His parents were Byron Soule and Dorothy Bass. His mother left the family, and his three youngest siblings were sent off to orphanages (Leroy, Evelyn, and William). George and his other three siblings (Elizabeth, Edith, and Byron Jr.) were sent to live with Thomas Dailey and his wife Hazel Chartier. Thomas Dailey was probably related to Charles Dailey, who was the first husband of Evelyn Lizotte (Dorothy Bass’ mother). It was said that Byron’s father Daniel Soule provided financial support to the Dailey’s, so that they could raise the children. The Dailey’s adopted George, the oldest child. (Thomas Daily died in 1964, and Hazel died in 1963.) The other three children went to a foster home, headed by Bill and Pauline Wharton, who lived in Virginia.

George married Janice Lewin.
