Hilda Maier went to be with Jesus on February 18, 2008, in Temecula, CA, at the age of 88. Born in Apache, Oklahoma, to Henry and Frieda Wernli, Hilda was the fifth of eight children and the last to leave this earth. She graduated from Stecker High School and attended business college in Oklahoma City. In 1938, Hilda married Wesley Maier, her husband of 69 years. They moved to California in 1942 after the birth of their first daughter, Pat.

Wesley preceded her in death in August 2007. Hilda was a homemaker devoted to her life as wife, mother and grandmother. She took great pride in her cooking and was an excellent seamstress. For many years she was an avid bridge player. She loved to entertain and frequently invited family, friends and neighbors for dinner and cards. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Van Nuys, for almost fifty years, where she participated in the Phebian Society, Couples Club, and Pairs and Spares.

Hilda was survived by her daughter Pat Hall of Thousand Oaks; daughter and son-in-law Betty and Jim Young and son and daughter-in-law Gary and Marnie Maier, all of Temecula; and daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Randy Ward of Kenner, Louisiana. She also left behind seven grandchildren: Cindy Rubeck, Sandy Lambert, Cari Strange, Tim Young, Kim Ugarteche, Kristin Ratkoski, and Tricia Maier, and eight great-grandchildren: Jeremy and Joshua Corcoran, Justin Rubeck, Colton and Chase Lambert, and Jordyn, Kylie and Joshua Strange. In addition, she was survived by one great-great granddaughter, J'Lynn Corcoran.

All will miss her warm smile, her encouraging spirit, her love of red clothing, and her constantly worn butterflies. Services were held March 1, 2008 at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, followed by interment. A luncheon reception followed.
