Obituary was in the Samuel C. Gracey Bible - "Death of Hon. Thomas Gracey - Hon. Thomas Gracey on thursday morning, August 9, 1894, succumbed to a complication of physical ailments after considerable suffering. Judge Gracey was born in Ireland, and we learn, in the county Antrim, and emigrated to America when a young man, locating in the neighborhood of Shippensburg, and moved to Fulton county over thirty-five years ago. He held the position of Justice of the Peace for a number of years, which office he resigned in 1892, to take his place on the bench as Associate Judge. He was well and popularly known and his death will be sincerely mourned by attached friends in all parts of the county, who will long remember his genial manners and kindness of heart. A wife and several grown-up sons and daughters survive him. He was aged 70 years and 9 months."

Hon. Thomas GRACEY died at his home in Taylor township, August 9, 1894, after a brief illness. He was born near Dublin, Ireland, in August 1823. When he was nine years old his parents emigrated to America and settled in Cumberland County, PA where he has one brother still living. Thomas, being of an industrious disposition, learned the cooper trade and afterwards learned the milling trade. He married Miss Emily BOOKMAN, October 4th, 1843, who died May 10th, 1853, leaving him with five children, three of which are now living. On September 6, 1855, he was married to Henrietta SPROWL. To them were born eleven children -- three dead and eight living. He moved to Fulton County in 1857. Judge GRACEY was highly honored by his neighbors; his judgement was good and he was respected and loved by all who knew him. He was a kind and indulgent father and loving husband. In religion Judge GRACEY was a Methodist, and in his walk and conversation was an honor to the church. Politically he was a Democrat. He served as Justice of the Peace in Taylor township for twenty-one years. He was elected Associate Judge in 1891, and served two years and seven months with credit and honor to the county, he was 71 years old. His remains were followed by a large body of friends to Centre Church were he was laid to rest on August 10th. The services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Shaffer, assisted by Rev. Owen Hicks, his former pastor.

Pennsylvania, Veterans Burial Cards, 1777-2012 lists Thomas Gracey served in the Civil War from 2 Sep 1864 to 2 Jun 1865 in the Army as a private in Co. G. 205th, Reg., Burial in Center Methodist, Taylor Twp., Section E, Grave #10. Information given on 25 May 1936.

His 1st wife was Emily "Emma" (Baughman or Bookman) Gracey, they had 4 children; Daniel, Mary E., John and James E. Gracey. His second wife was Henrietta (Sprowl) Gracey, they had 11 children; William S., Margaret S., Jesse H., Thomas A., Samuel C., Joseph H., Frances Jane "Jennie", Robert H., Alice A., John, Ida Mae Gracey.

Relationship to my family: Gr. Gr. Gr. Grandfather of my daughter.
