Clayton was born to Job Hinton and Mary (maybe Burke). He moved to St. Louis Co. in Missouri, which later became Franklin County. He was mentioned in Job Hinton's will dated 24 Mar 1821 in Franklin Co. Wills and Administrations as a son. Named as son and administrator of will of mary Hinton dated 24 Oct 1843. He is on Franklin co. Missouri Territorial Tax list 1819 in St John's twp. Married to Sarah Richardson on 22 March 1811 in St Louis Co. (in many sources it states Franklin, which was not yet a county). Known residences were wilkes co. Georgia, St Louis/Franklin Co Mo. Benton Co. Or. It is said he died in Lane Co. which is possible since his daughter Sophia, married to an Inman lived there. His donation Land claim 2648 certificate No. 319.54 acres. location twps 14S Range 5W and Sections 21,22. in 1854 census of Bemton Co. Or he is listed C. B. Hinton 1 male over 21, 1 female over 18. In Oregon Pioneers by Oregon Gen. society it is stated, "Hinton caravan leaving Franklin Co. MO. for Oregon included families, Hinton, Inman, Childers and Manning. they arrived OR Lane Co 1852 Oregon Archives states he arrived 15 Oct 1852, settled claim 26 Apr 1853 Oath of alliance 29 Jun 1863. AFf. Wm Barclay, Rowland B. Hinton and J. W. Hinton. He is buried next to his wife Sarah, the cemetery was began buy one of her brothers on the Richardson DLC
