Julia "Julie" Ann Adolphsen Tompkins, 62, of Farmington, was taken from us too early. She passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Farmington, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Julia was born July 20, 1947, in Chehalis, Wash., the second child of Julius Adolphsen and Grace Stratton Adolphsen.
July graduated from Adna High School in Adna, Wash., in 1965. Julie had many friends she had kept in contact with from her school days. She loved the days of growing up in a small community.
She was employed at San Juan College for more than 20 years in a variety of positions, most recently as the administrative assistant at the Child and Family Development Center.
On Jan. 1, 1988, she married George Tompkins in Durango, Colo.
She enjoyed genealogy research, cross-stitch, baking, especially anything with chocolate, and being with her family and friends.
We are all so fortunate to have Julie in our lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, George, of the family home; her daughter, Angela Payne Martinez; her grandchildren, Matthew and Hannah Martinez, all of Albuquerque; two stepsons, Roy (Sara) Tompkins of Phoenix, Ariz., and Glenn (Kelbe) Tompkins of Farmington; four step-grandchildren, James, Jordan, Autumn and Alicia, all of Farmington. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy (Frank) Wodarz of Farmington; brother, David (Laura) Adolphsen of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; nieces, Kaitlyn Adolphsen and Tanya (Brad) McKibben and their two children, Serena and Lucas, of Farmington; nephews, Owen, Dallas and Daniel Adolphsen and Eugene Wodarz; three aunts and numerous cousins.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to Dr. Jeff Neidhart and his entire staff for the compassion that was extended to Julie during her illness.
Per Julie's request, no service was held.
Cremation was under the direction of Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home in Farmington.
Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Farmington.
There will be a celebration of her life at her sister's home at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made in Julia's name to Adna High School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 118, Adna, WA 98522; to the American Cancer Society , or to San Juan College Foundation, CFDC Playground Renovations account.
