Death of Fred Schaecher
Tuesday afternoon at 6 o'clock came the sad news of the death of Fred Schaecher, who died at his home here. Fred Schaecher is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schaecher. He was born Oct. 21, 1888, at Sparland, Ill. In the year 1901 he moved to a farm south of St. Bernard with his parents. He was married to Miss Clara Gogan, Sept. 19, 1916 at Lindsay. There were three children born to this union, Paul, 9, Edward 21 months, and Mary, who died shortly after birth. Fred is the first death in the Henry Schaecher family circle. He leaves, besides his wife and two sons, his aged father and mother, seven brothers and five sisters – Joe, Charles, William, of St. Bernard; Leo, Frank, Tony and Ed, of Lindsay; Mrs. Henry Engelbart, Mrs. Henry Albracht, Mrs. John Albracht, and Mrs. Emma Korth of this vicinity, and Mrs. Lena Hohlhauser, of Phoenix, Ariz. All except the latter were in attendance at his funeral. Fred was engaged in the garage business here for a few years and then worked with his brother, Leo, in the oil business until last fall when his health failed completely and he was no longer able to drive the oil truck. He was a member of the Lindsay band and the fire department. He was a kind husband, diligent member of the church and a benevolent and charitable neighbor. All business houses were closed during the funeral and the crowd was so large that some were unable to get in the church. Funeral services were held Friday morning at 9 o'clock at the Holy Family church. Father Justinian officiated and burial was made in the Holy Family cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mike Lebenz, Jacob Wessel, Luman Ruxicka, Max Andrews, Will McAuliff and John Hoadley.
