He was also a talented artist, grandson of revolutionary war hero Jacob Barnitz, brother of Lutheran missionary Rev. Samuel Bacon Barnitz, husband of Sarah E. Gray Barnitz, and father of Sarah, Anne, Sam, Fannie, Harry, Lincoln, Charles, Susan, and Mary.
