Hilda is a daughter of Caroline Karma Magnusson and Johanas Jonsson (Johnson). Fourth wife of Joseph William Summerhays.

Hilda's 12 children were:

The Salt Lake Tribune Feb 25, 1945 - Hilda J Summerhays

Mrs. Hilda Johnson Summerhays, 74 former Salt Lake resident and prominent church and social worker, died at her home in Oakland Cal., Friday morning, according to word received in Salt Lake City. Widow of Joseph William Summerhays, she was born April 18, 1870, in Helsingborg, Sweden, and came to Virginia City, Utah, with her parents when a small child. At the age of eight, she came to Salt Lake City and had lived here until 1929, when she moved to California for her health. She was a graduate of LDS Collage. A member of the LDS church, she was active in MIA and Relief Society, and for many years was a member of the tabernacle choir. She had a leading part in the musical, "William Tell," in the old Salt Lake theater. She was an active Red Cross worker. She was married to Joseph William Summerhays in the old Salt Lake LDS Endowment House Nov, 15, 1888. Survivors include eight sons and daughters, Jared W. Summerhays, Walla Walla, Wash.; Mrs. Fred Cotterell, San Diego, Cal,; Mrs. Beatrice Larson, Oakland, Cal.; Ben J. Summerhays Beverly Hills, Cal,; Joel J. Summerhays, Fresno, Cal.; Clyde J. Summerhays, Salt Lake City; Mrs. T. C. Auger, Idaho, and Robert Summerhays Tacoma, Wash.; 32 grandchildren and several great - grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday in Oakland. The body will be brought to Salt Lake City for additional funeral services and burial. Services will be announced from 124 S. 4th East.
