Dene Hawkins, 94, of Aspermont passed away Monday March 29, 2010 at Stonewall County Hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday at First Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Jim Reinbolt with burial to follow in the Aspermont cemetery under the care and direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.

Dene was born May 18, 1915 in the Sandlin Community in northeast Stonewall County to Jim and Cassie Sandlin. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse and finished after the 8th grade. She married B.O. Hawkins on August 27, 1931 at the age of 16 and was married 68 years at the time of his death in 1999. Dene was born and lived within two miles of her birthplace until moving to town in late 1999. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a big supporter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities and especially loved following the Aspermont Hornets sporting events.

Survivors include two sons: Bronc Hawkins of Aspermont. Bo Hawkins and wife Brenda of Aspermont. Daughter-in-Law Glenetta Hawkins of Abilene. Brother-in-Law Rob Hawkins of Buckhorn. Nine Grandchildren, Renne Spikes and husband Van of Aspermont, Jan Harris and husband D.P. of Old Glory, Julie Hull and husband Garry of Stanton, Kelly Bartley and husband Terry of Obrien, Jack Hawkins and wife Penny of Aspermont, Mary Lea Hare and husband Brent of North Richland Hills, Ben Hawkins and wife Mary of Stanton, John Hawkins and wife Brenda Beth of Lubbock, Steve Hawkins and wife Tammy of Haskell. Fourteen Great-grandchildren. Three Great-Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband B.O. Hawkins; her parents Jim and Cassie Sandlin; her brother Bob Sandlin; her son Tony Hawkins; her daughter-in-law Betty Hawkins; and her Grandson Bill Hawkins.
