He re-enlisted as a Veteran Volunteer February 9, 1864, at Chattanooga, Tennessee, promoted to sergeant May 1, 1865, and honorably discharged by special order to date November 10, 1865, well after the rest of the regiment had left service.
He married Anna E. Zahn and fathered Enos C. (b. @1868), but Anna does not appear in the 1870 census. There are as yet unverified reports that he also married Mary Reitzel, fathering Harry R. (b. 01/19/62), and Laura LNU. He lived his final years with his nephew in Lancaster where he died in Lancaster General Hospital from "dilatation of right side of heart" with "mitral insufficiency" a contributing factor. His death certificate spells his surname "Buchman."
