Ms. Lyon graduated from Chopticon High School in 1997; she was attending ECPI Nursing School and would have graduated in December. She was shot by her husband who then killed himself. The school held a memorial service, and her classmates and instructors also attended her funeral. The school planted a weeping willow tree in front of the facility in her name.
In addition to her father, Tara is survived by her three children, siblings; A.J. Lyon, and Sheila Lyon Tayman, Jenny Dodson, grandparents;, Kitty Lyon and Margaret and Finley Reatherford, and two nephews. Tara was preceded in death by her grandfather Bill Lyon.
Pallbearers were A.J. Lyon, Jonathan Lyon, Bradley Lyon, Herby Heaton, Danny Lyon, Danny Reatherford, Rusty Reatherford, and Rob Reatherford.
