Mrs, Elizabeth Jane Smith to be buried today
Merkel, Feb 23
Mrs Elizabeth Jane Smith, 68, widow of the late RevClaude B. Smith, Methodist minister, died at her home here shortly after noon today, following an illness of two weeks.
Funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the Methodist church. The Rev. John H. Crow, pastor, will officiate,Assisted by the Rev. R. A. Walker,pastor of the Presbyterian church, the Rev C. R. Joyner, pastor of the Baptist church, and Dr. W. M. **nrrell, retired Methodist minister of Abilene. Burial will be made in Rose Hill cemetery.
Born in Midlothian, Mrs. Smith was married there December 24,1885. The Rev. Mr. Smith entered the ministry in 1899 in Brown county and was active for 15 years in various central Texas churches. He was relieved of his pastorship of the McCaulley church a few months before his death in 1914.
Survivors include four daughters: Mrs. Shirley Smith of Three Rivers, Mrs. G. L. Farrar of Wellingion; Mrs. C. W. Whitaker of Houston; and Mrs. O. H. Kyle of Anson; five sons G. W. Smith of Merkel, C. B. Smith of Stamford, F. P, and B. E. Smith of Houston, and V. S. Smith of Lubbock; 19 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren.
