Frank C. Van Horn, 83, was educated in the schools of Corsicana, Capt. J.A. Townsend's school, and the Corsicana Military Institute. After the death of his father, he became the publisher of the Corsicana Observer, later selling the paper. For several decades, he moved about Texas working on newspapers. One he was employed on was the Dallas Times-Herald and was one of the founders of the original Dallas Dispatch. He went to Christoval in 1911 where he established the Christoval Observer. Mr. Van Horn retired in 1940. He was the sponsor of the Confederate Veteran's reunions at Christoval in the 1920s and 1930s. He was commander for years of the Christoval Tom Green Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was the organizer and president of the Tom Green County Old Settlers' Association, which held its first reunion in Christoval in 1934. An accomplished musician, he played in the Corsicana Cornet Band, which furnished the music for the laying of the cornerstone for Trinity University at Tehuacana in 1873. He was a member of the Methodist Church, Knights of Pythias, and the Democratic Party. Survivors include his wife; two sons - Earl Van Horn and Frank C. Van Horn, Jr.; one daughter - Mrs. Lee Crow; one sister - Mrs. A.H. Piper.
