Douthit was a long-time resident of Olney, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife.
He was a retired pumper for Alps Oil Company. In 1977, he was honored by the Permian Basin Oil Museum.
Survivors: two sons - James Douthit of Christoval and Little Smith Douthit of Breckenridge; four daughters - Gwendolyn Huges of San Angelo, Mina Bea Byers of Graham, Betty Sue Connally of San Antonio, Nancy Allen of Piedmont, OK; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
