Child of John "Jay" Altmeyer and Ruth Covey Altmeyer. Siblings: John Lee, Frieda, and Robert. Laurie and her brother, Bob, were in a friend's car coming home from school. The car they were in was hit by a train. All five of the teenagers in the car were killed instantly.

Bob and Laurie were great kids and will always be missed.
