DEATH OF MRS. J. W. BROWN

Mrs. Emma G. Brown, wife of J. W. Brown, passed away at her home here last Thursday after a lingering illness. She had been suffering with cancer and her death was not unexpected.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. H. C. Bundy, Sunday afternoon at the United Brethren church and interment was made at the Kismet cemetery. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Mr. J. W. Brown, and one son, Howard Nelson of Hutchinson, Kansas, and two grandchildren. She was a Gold Star mother, her other son, Myron Nelson, dying in the service of his country during the late war.

Mrs. Brown had lived in Kismet for over 32 years, having arrived here shortly after the town was founded. Several years ago she operated a general store here and was postmistress. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist church but during her residence in Kismet had been an active worker in the local United Brethren church. She was loved by all who knew her and her passing brings great sadness to her large host of friends and relatives.

OBITUARY.

Mrs. J. W. Brown

Emma Grace Perry, daughter of Myron and Achsah (Keene) Perry, was born April 2, 1865 at Allen, Michigan, and died August 21, 1930, at her home in Kismet, Kansas.

In her childhood she attended Hillsdale college at Hillsdale, Michigan.

March 7, 1894 she was united in marriage to George H. Nelson. To this union were born two sons, Myron W. and Howard Easter. The family came to Kansas in January, 1908. Three years later Mr. Nelson died and Mrs. Nelson took charge of the postoffice at Kismet and also managed a small store.

On March 18, 1914, she was married to Mads Olson, who died March 8, 1928.

During the late war, both sons served overseas and Myron Nelson succumbed to exposure and died March 21, 1919.

October 9, 1929, Mrs. Olson was united in marriage with John W. Brown of Kismet. Soon after their marriage, Mrs. Brown became afflicted with cancer which finally caused her death.

Mrs. Brown was converted in early life and she has been a lifelong member of the Baptist church. Since coming to Kismet, she has been closely affiliated with the church here, having been teacher of the ladies' Bible class for several years, and also an active member of the Ladies Aid and the W.M.A.

Left to mourn her loss are her husband, J. W. Brown, her son, Howard E. Nelson, two grandchildren, eight step-children, besides a host of friends.
