MOS: 11B4P Infantryman (Airborne Qual.)
When Alfred arrived in Vietnam 2 December 1967, he was assigned to A Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, USARV. Alfred was a squad leader with A Company that was on a search and destroy mission in the vicinity of Dong Lach and 16 kilometers southeast of Se Bien Hoa, when A Company was engaged by a large group of hostile forces using automatic and rifle fire. Alfred died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile rifle fire.
Sgt Coffroth served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his mother, Virginia T Myers, and his sister and brother of 608 Wednesday Lane, Aberdeen, Washington.
Posthumously awarded the DSC 10 July 1968.
