Rosemary Irene Whitsit King, 75, of Terre Haute, passed away at Union Hospital on March 28, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. Rosie was born Oct. 10, 1934, in Terre Haute, to Jesse Whitsit Sr. and Mary Wrightsman Whitsit. She married the love of her life, Richard (Dick) King, on Feb. 7, 1952.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Jr.; a daughter, Vicki Atkinson; two brothers, Bob Whitsit and Jesse Whitsit Jr.; and one sister, Betty Meeks.
Rosie is survived by her husband Dick; her daughter, Cindy Decker and husband Jim of Terre Haute; son-in-law, Jay Atkinson of Terre Haute; grandson, Dicky Jay Atkinson and his wife Shelly of McCordsville; three granddaughters, Tammy Atkinson of Terre Haute, Angie Lively and husband Sam of Greenwood, and Nicole Slaughter of West Terre Haute; four great-grandsons, Dalton, Hunter, Parker, and Cooper Atkinson; and four great-granddaughters, Kali Price, Madison and Olivia Slaughter, and Sophia Baumunk; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Rosie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and will be dearly missed by all. She was a homemaker and sold home crafts at the Covered Bridge Festival for many years. She was an excellent seamstress, good cook, loved to play slot machines, and an all around lovable and warmhearted person. She will be remembered always for her loving care and her laughter.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., in Roselawn Funeral Home, 7500 N. Clinton St. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, in the funeral home, with Pastor Merrillyn Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley or the charity of your choice.
