Samuel Burrier, one of the wealthiest and most prominent pioneer residents of Grant County, passed away at his home in Franklin township on Friday morning, after a sickness for about two years.
He was eighty-two years, eight months and twenty-seven days old. He had lived in this are for a period of sixty-one years.

Mr. Burrier was the last surviving member of his father's family. He leaves a wife and five children, including three sons, Alonzo Arthur, James M., and Daniel O. Burrier; and two daughters, Mrs. John McConnell and Mrs. Roscoe Harvey. All children live in Franklin township.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Roseburg church. Burial was made in the IOOF cemetery.

Mr. Burrier, a lifelong farmer was born May 17, 1830, in Carroll county, Ohio. His parents were Daniel and Catherine Burrier, both natives of Maryland. In September 1852, at the age of twenty-two years, Mr. Burrier came to Grant county and hewed out a home in the primeval forest. He married on April 18, 1856, to Mary Tharp, who survives. They had been married about fifty-seven years.

At the time of his death, Mr. Burrier owned half interest in the Burrier hotel in Marion. He partnershiped with two or three others, to erect the hotel several years ago.
