W. R. NUTTING

W. R. Nutting, one of the best known and respected citizens of Gainesville, died at his home on East California Friday evening, following an illness of six weeks. Mr. Nutting was born at Neosho, McDonald County, Missouri, August 23, 1858, and came to Texas at an early age.

For the past 40 years he had been associated with John L. Simpson and the Tyler and Simpson Wholesale Grocery Co., a traveling salesman for many years, known in north Texas and southern Oklahoma. Mr. Nutting was a faithful member of the Whaley Memorial Methodist Church and active in church work, a member of the Gideons and the Knights of Pythias lodge.

He is survived by his widow and five children, Misses Lucinda and Ida Nutting of Gainesville, George Nutting of Fort Sill, Okla., Joe Nutting of Alabama and Tallmage Nutting of Gainesville, three sisters, Mrs. Annie Ragin of Melvern, Kansas, Mrs. J. L. Buzzard of Grove, Okla., and Mrs. Sol Owens of Joplin, Missouri.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the family residence, corner of California St. and Grand Avenue with Rev. Clyde Long, presiding elder of the McKinney Methodist churches, former pastor of the Whaley Memorial Methodist Church, conducting the service. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery directed by G. J. Carroll.

GAINESVILLE, TEXAS, May 23. - W.R. Nutting, 66 years old, a pioneer grocery salesman of Gainesville, died at his home here Friday, after a lingering illness. Mr. Nutting was in business with John L. Simpson of this city, but later took the position as traveling salesman with the firm of Tyler & Simpson, just concluding a service that extended over forty years.

Mr. Nutting was born in McDonald County, Missouri. The funeral will be held from the Nutting home Saturday.
