Wife of Maj. Samuel Taylor.

She died at San Salvador Plantation, Pendelton County, South Carolina, much of which is now located on property of Clemson University.

Part of her parentage is unclear. Some say Cannon was her middle name while others say it was her maiden name. She was certainly the daughter of Mrs. Ann Cannon Hudgins/Hudgens but whether the daughter or stepdaughter of Ann's second husband William Hudgins is uncertain.

To complicate matters, some family trees show Eleanor's first husband was Ambrose Hudgins, either a cousin or her stepbrother, by whom she had one daughter, Sarah Ann Hudgins. DOLLIE CANNON DAVIS says, however, that Ambrose Hudgins was married to Joanna/Hannah. His will names her and his children. He testified for Ann Cannon for her application for Revolutionaty War pension that William Cannon had given a slave to Nancy Hudgins. Ambrose was most likely the brother of the Hudgins (whom) Eleanor married since he (Ambrose) was still alive when Eleanor married Samuel Taylor."

Eleanor Cannon Hudgins married Maj. Samuel Taylor in Charleston in 1769 according to some accounts, and had the following children:
Sarah Eleanor "Ellen" Taylor born 1775 in Charleston, South Carolina; married Gen. John Bayliss Earle.
Col. John Taylor born c1778 married 1st Frances Owens, 2nd to Mary Margaret Smith.
Maj. Samuel Taylor, Jr., born 1 MAR 1777 married Leah Reese
Col. Joseph Taylor born 7 JUL 1783 married Nancy Sloan
Drusilla "Dilly" Taylor born 1787 in Pendleton, South Carolina married Robert Hackett
Gen. William Cannon Taylor born 1789 in Pendleton, South Carolina, married first Mary Ann Mitchell, daughter of Gov. David Brydie Mitchell of Georgia, and second Eliza Hartwell Meade.
Elizabeth B. "Betsy" Taylor born 1791 in Pendleton District, SC, married Eber Moore Bolles and died in Mobile, Alabama.
