Reverend Andrew Jackson Crawford of Marengo County, Alabama. The son of James Crawford Jr (a Revolutionary War veteran who had been debilitated in the War) and Christina White. Rev. A.J. Crawford was a second cousin to Andrew Jackson. A.J. Crawford served under Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812.
"METHODIST MISSIONARY SOCIETY. Andrew J. Crawford, Missionary. Mr. Crawford was appointed, by the Tennessee Conference, to labour, for a season, among the Cherokees who under stand English, which many of them do. This system will be pursued. Some of the Cherokees have joined the Methodist Communion."
He moved to Alabama in 1823 to serve as a circuit minister to the Cherokee Nation there and to start a school for Cherokee children.
AJ was married to Margaret Webster Kelly. They had 10 children.
