Retired Salesman Dies at Age of 83

James Alexander May, aged 83, of 402 South Meridian, retired wholesale grocery salesman, died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 27, 1867, in Freetown, Ind.

He made his home in Wichita since 1921 when he moved here from Pocatello, Ida. He was a member of West Side Christian church, Eufaula, Okla., lodge A. F. & A. M., India temple of the Shrine at Oklahoma City, Wichita consistory and West Side lodge, Odd Fellows.

Surviving are his wife, Myrtle, at home; two daughters, Mrs. H. M. Butler, Gainsville, Tex., and Mrs. L. D. Tally, 427 North Edwards; a son, James A. May, Jr., Kennewick, Wash.' three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Lewis, Enid, Okla., Mrs. Ruth Moon, Guthrie, Okla., and Mrs. Gertie Bullington, Albuquerque, N. M.; a brother, Joe May, Victorville, Cal.; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted in Culbertson chapel at 10 a.m. Tuesday by Rev. O. Ray Burgess, West Side Christian church, and West Side lodge, I.O.O.F. will conduct a ritual at the graveside in Wichita Park cemetery.
