THERESA, N.Y. — Patrick Real, 70, of 32138 County Rt. 18, died Thursday, March 25, at his home.
A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Monday, March 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Evans Mills. A prayer service will be at 10:15 a.m. Monday at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery with military honors.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 28, at the funeral home.
Born Nov. 20, 1939, in Plattsburgh, a son of Francis J. and Anita Colihan Real, he graduated in 1958 from Mt. Assumption Academy.
He enlisted in the Army on Oct. 23, 1959. He served in the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He served with the military police and was a recruiter, receiving the first Gold Ring Recruiter Award in the US. He was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1987.
He married Noreen Ankrom on June 6, 1969, at Cabot, Pa. with Rev. Edgar Shano officiating.
The couple moved to NY and purchased a dairy farm on the Dutch Settlement Road on May 1, 1987. He and his wife owned and operated the farm up until May 15, 2007.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching old movies, going to church, farming, and he loved animals.
Surviving besides his wife is a son, Thomas Real, Theresa; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Trinise and Thomas Giles, Erie, Pa,, Tricia and Jason Broadus, Charleston, S.C., Tristin and Robert Eckert, North Branch, Mich., Tialisa Real and her companion Michael Amell, Dexter; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Marcia R. Burkuit, Sodus Pt., N.Y., Frances and Martin Traynor, Omaha, Neb., four sisters in law, Ann Real, Queensbury, N.Y., Carol Brown, Sarasota, Fla., Patricia Real, Syracuse, Barbara Real, Huntsville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Barbara died at the age of 18 months, and four brothers, Dennis, Ned, Dick, and John, all died before him.
Donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
