Roy Sherman Childers grew up in the Southern Illinois area. After he and his wife, Beulah got married, he built a home from the ground up. They had two children, Don and Patricia whom he dearly loved. He worked for many years at the Tamms Lumber Company. His garden was the best in the entire town - the corn was so tall and the tomatoes were out of this world!! How could I forget that garden, or the fruit trees, the oak trees with tires around the bottom of them, the chicken house, the bee hives and how Grandpa always had something he was working on outside. He loved to go rabbit and squirrel hunting and always had a little dog by his side. He always asked Grandma for "somethin' cold to drink" when he got in from working outside. He had four granddaughters and made each one of us our own cedar chests with our initials on the top with gold bolts. He only had one hand, but you would never know it by looking at his work. Grandpa like to watch a show called "Jubilee" on Sunday mornings and would sing along with the bass singer! He also liked to watch college football and was an Oklahoma Sooner fan. He was a very good Christian man and I don't know anyone who didn't like him. He was the kind of Grandpa everyone should have. I will miss him forever.
