Col. James built the spectacular house at 207 N. 7th, Crockett, which has been accorded a Texas historical Medallion and is now listed in the national register as an outstanding example of Eastlake Victorian architecture.
Their son James Fernando Downes b. 9 July 1871; d. July 30, 1932, buried in Glenwood first married Cora Josephine Jones b. 16 June 1869; d. 28 Sept 1896, a bride of one year who died at the Downes home in childbirth, buried in glenwood. Downes next married Leela Warfield b. 24 April 1886 d. Oct 10, 1962, buried in Evergreen Cemetery.
He was associated with a Dallas brokerage firm prior to his death.
