MRS. GERTRUDE P. MC MARTIN

Mrs. Gertrude P. McMartin, age 78 died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eva Brown, Sunday morning.

She was born in North Jackson, Mahoning County, Ohio on Nov. 28, 1862, the daughter of Jonathan and Luscetta Wise. She came to Michigan with her parents in a covered wagon when a very small child and has lived in the vicinity of Plainwell ever since. On Sept. 3, 1881 she was married to Charles A. Brown who pre-deceased her in 1912. To this union two children were born Eva L., and Eliza Cleo. Cleo passed away in 1937. In 1914 she was married to David B. McMartin who died on Feb 14 of this year (1940).

She was a devoted member of the Plainwell Baptist church and an active worker, both there and in the Presbyterian church of which her late husband was a member, till ill health forced her to give it up.

She had a happy, friendly disposition and liked nothing better than to visit or entertain her host of friends. In May of the year, failing health made it necessary for her to give up house-keeping, and she went to live with her daughters who cared for her till she passed away.

Surviving her are the daughter Eva L. Brown, four grandchildren, Mrs. Archie Sonnerville and Mrs. Charles Buxton of Plainwell, Arthur and Russell Jackson of Cooper and seven great grandchildren, three brothers, Frank E. Wise and Martin Wise of Hopkins and Homer Wise of Plainwell, three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Edgell of Cadillac, Mrs. Ora Wickersham and Miss Katherine Wise of Detroit. Besides her immediate family she leaves four step-daughters, Mrs. T. B. Carroll of Plainwell, Mrs. R. J. Gusenbar and Mrs. R. L Fetterhoff of Jackson, Mrs. Alfred Gainder of Hickory Corners and one step son John D. McMartin of Glen, California.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Tuesday at the Baptist church with the pastor, the Rev. A. M. Engle officiating. Burial was made in Hillside cemetery.
