DENNIS HERMAN WEISSER
August 27, 1931 ~ December 30, 2013

Dennis H. Weisser was born in Meire Grove, Minnesota to William and Caroline Weisser on August 27, 1931. He died peacefully at his home in Battle Ground, Washington on December 30, 2013. He was 82 years old.

In his early twenties Dennis followed his family and moved to Portland, Oregon. Dennis married Patricia Korbut in 1956 in Portland, Oregon, eventually in 1960 moving to their farm in Brush Prairie, Washington enjoying 45 years of marriage, working, farming, raising their family and volunteering in their faith community. Dennis lived in Brush Prairie for 47 years, moving to Battle Ground, Washington in 2007.

He worked for Nabisco Corp. in Portland, Oregon for 31 years in the food and environmental services divisions. During these years he still found time to volunteer, specifically at Saint Birgitta's in Portland, Oregon for their BBQ chicken dinners. Dennis had a big heart and was always willing to help either by having family members stay with them or throwing extra food on for any unexpected guest who showed up at the house during dinner time.

During his retirement he and Patricia enjoyed traveling to Arizona, Texas, Alaska, Hawaii and other states. Dennis was known for his expertise in art of sausage making, specifically kielbasa, breakfast and bratwurst flavors. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic parish in Battle Ground, Washington and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

When Dennis moved from his farm to his home in Battle Ground, Washington, he was introduced to the hobby of knitting hats. He had boxes and boxes of yarn, and diligently knitted hat after hat and donated them with love to local charities with a majority of them going to Share House in Vancouver, Washington. The final tally of hats is somewhere roughly around 5,000 plus.

Survivors include his children Thomas (Donna), Daniel (Sherie), Gregory (Suzanne), William (Sheryl), Marianne Pachl (Russell), and Dennis Patrick (Nancee), 19 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and two more who are still on their way, one sister, Elizabeth Black of Salem, Oregon and many nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Dennis. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and one sister Shirley Scharn.

His family extends a heartfelt word of thanks to his parish family from Sacred Heart and special thanks to the staff at the Hockinson Cafe in Battle Ground, Washington for giving him that extra special treatment and making him part of their family. We also want to express our thanks to those friends and neighbors who helped Dennis and his past and present caregivers.

Rosary was recited at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Battle Ground, Washington followed by a memorial Mass on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Burial and final place of rest was Sacred Heart cemetery, also in Battle Ground, Washington.

Dennis liked flowers, he loved food more, specifically dessert, but even more he loved helping people. He would love for memorial contributions to be made to either SHARE or Saint Vincent de Paul in lieu of flowers (which you can't eat and they don't last anyway)
